A TALE OF TWO CITIES will have its World Premiere screening at Water Docs 2018. Join us to see this film at our "Water Drops" Shorts Program on Sunday, April 15th at 3:00 pm. A Tale of Two Cities (2018, USA) A TALE OF TWO CITIES tells the story of citizens from two very different Michigan communities—picturesque, small town Evart and gritty, industrial Flint— that have found their futures inextricably linked by a threat to the one thing that all life requires: water. In our third short documentary, we explore the growing threat of water privatization and what happens when government runs a critical function, like providing clean drinking water, as if it were a business.

Gioula is fighting to preserve her simple way of life with her family, dogs, cats, bees, chickens, horses, and hundreds of ancient olive trees on her organic olive farm on the coast of the Peloponnese Peninsula in Greece. The arid region, where water is scarce and where people have fished and farmed for over 35,000 years, is threatened by plans to build a large golf resort destined for foreign wealthy sunseekers. Not only farming itself, but moreover, a way of life and a culture are in peril.

In Gioula’s words: “This is pure violence. Violence towards the earth.” In a time of economic crisis, development pressures are high. All Gioula wants is a simple life.
