To stir that rippling is to awaken action.
Canada Water Week wrapped up this past Saturday, marking the end of a week-long celebration of water in our country and around the world. The celebration kicked off on Monday, March 22nd, or as we prefer to call it, World Water Day. We brought together a huge collection of stories and resources in appreciation of water and climate on our website, so if you didn’t get a chance to see it, visit our Community Section. We saved it for you!

Our local surfing and medical communities mourn the loss of Toronto doctor, underwater photographer and athlete…
Dr. Lucas Murnaghan was the partner of Antonio Lennert and co-owner of Surf the Greats, one of our local Water Docs community partners. It is with support such as theirs that has helped Water Docs grow over the years.
Lucas passed away at age 45 after a battle with cancer and he will be missed immensely by the whole community. Rest in peace, Lucas. Our love and condolences to Antonio and Lucas’ family and friends.
“Dr. Lucas Murnaghan, who captured striking underwater photos, practised orthopedic surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children and co-owned Canadian surfing shop Surf the Greats, has died. He was 45.”. Read his full story on CBC.
Too young, too soon. You touched the lives of many.

What’s In Store for Water Docs
We want to let our wonderful readers and supporters know that there is lots going on behind the scenes at Ecologos/Water Docs.
As you read this we are hard at work on a rebranding project as part of our Water Docs 10th Anniversary Celebration. We'll share more about this soon as the project gets more firmly underway.
We are also very busy planning our 10th Anniversary Film Festival (Woohoo!) which will take place sometime in the Fall of 2021. As this is such a huge milestone for our festival we are in the midst of planning and organizing our biggest event to date and we can't wait to share it with you!
On top of that, we are in the early stages of establishing new partnerships that will help us increase our commitment to climate action, as well as address biases we hold as an organization. We are working on becoming more cognizant of the intersectionality of how we operate and what we produce as an organization.
All that to say this is an exciting time for Ecologos/Water Docs and we hope you'll stay with us for this journey. Stay tuned and be the first to know about the developments we are making!
Be safe and take care,
The Ecologos/Water Docs Team

As World Ocean Day approaches (Sunday, June 8, 2025), Canadians have a unique opportunity to reflect on the incredible role oceans play in our daily lives and the health of the planet. For Canada, whose geography is defined by its extensive marine borders, this day holds exceptional significance. Bordered by the Pacific, Arctic, and Atlantic Oceans, and with over 243,000 kilometres of coastline, the longest of any country, Canada's environment, economy, and cultural identity are deeply entwined with the health of its marine ecosystems.
