Marketing & Communications Assistant

Position Profile

Taking care of our water resources and climate protection has never been more important than it is today. Ecologos is looking for a highly organized and motivated support staff person to join a team committed to delivering high-quality programs. We are looking for an energetic, detail oriented, and digitally savvy individual who has strong communication skills, is a people-person, and thrives in an independent working environment. This position is supported by the federal government’s Canada Summer Jobs program and is part-time (30 hours/week) with working hours to be agreed upon and fulfilled over the spring and summer of 2022.

Ecologos Environmental Organization (EEO) is a registered Canadian environmental and arts charity
celebrating 23 years of continuous growth in program development and impact. Ecologos is a champion of water and climate protection. Its network of volunteers, along with staff support, mount three core programs every year – the annual Water Docs Film Festival, Water Docs Where You Live Community Screenings and Water Docs at School Action Projects (aimed at grade 7 & 8 students in Ontario).

Together, these three programs inspire thousands of Ontarians with events that combine powerful, water and climate-themed documentary films, incisive educational features and direct connections to hands-on action opportunities.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Digital Content & Communications Manager and the Program Manager lead, your primary responsibilities will be:

  • assisting with marketing initiatives and campaigns including, social media, crowdfunding campaigns, website content development, and event promotions

  • co-ordinating initiatives with local, provincial, and national environmental and related organizations, with a special focus on recruitment of youth for participation

  • assisting with content creation for and moderating of external networks

  • soliciting volunteers as needed for programs, events and co-ordinating teams, with a special focus on diversity and equity candidates

  • researching and administering activities to support online and community events
    assisting in the research of documentary films, new technologies and other tools for program support

  • assisting with research and outreach to support the building of potential partnerships


Position Requirements

  • a college or university degree

  • proven initiative, and demonstrated research, analytical and problem-solving skills

  • a passion for learning about environmental issues concerning water and climate

  • an ability to complete tasks in an efficient manner and meet deadlines

  • results-oriented, with demonstrated ability to work with digital media apps

  • outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English; graphic design skills considered a strong asset

  • a motivated and confident team player, able to prioritize and effectively manage expectations

  • must be able to work from home on your own computer with high-speed internet, communicating often via email, telephone and Zoom

  • must also be available to attend bi-weekly team meetings held via Zoom on alternating Thursdays, 7pm-9pm ET

Eligibility based on Canada Summer Jobs criteria

This job is supported by the federal government’s Canada Summer Jobs program and therefore all applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for the position:

  • 30 years of age or under at the start of employment

  • a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment

  • must have a valid Social Insurance Number and be legally entitled to work in Ontario
